R-TV

R-TV is a Swedish company that run a digital network of connected screens in retail stores in Sweden. Each store is divided into zones where different content is displayed. Each zone is run by a computer running Windows XP and Dise DSM Replay. The number of screens and zones depends on the size of the store. The number of zones range from 1-4 and the number of screen vary from 10-40. The sound can be adjusted on time of day depending on the amount of customers in the store.



The digital signage network has between 600’-1 million viewers per week. Considering that 80% of the decision to buy is done in the store this medium has a lot of impact on the customer. A total of 45 stores have been equipped with Dise DSM during 2005 and beginning of 2006. The setup of the digital signage network is based on a standard Dise DSM installation.



All of their screens are controlled from R-TV office in Stockholm, using Dise Composer, custom software and Dise Bridge. Dise Monitor is used to manage the network and alert support staff of any problems that might occur. Distribution of content to all players is done through FTP over VPN/ADSL connections to all sites. Presentations are created on a per week basis and scheduled and distributed ahead of play out to all stores.



At each Player site one player is connected to ADSL. Two applications are used to fetch and play back the scheduled content, Dise Probe and Dise Replay. Dise Probe mirrors the content on the FTP server at preset time intervals and alerts the Dise Replay application of new Content. Dise Replay automatically plays the scheduled content 24/7 complete with effects. A VNC solution is also installed on all Player computers to allow for additional system maintenance. Dise Probe is also responsible for controlling the volume in the store. The VGA output from the player computer is being distributed using VGA over CAT5 technology from Magenta.



The content is layered WMV based video files, 75% advertising and 25% editorial material. The content is self produced and according to R-TV so far 200 shows (30-120 sec,) have been produced. The content is mixed with channel bumpers, news and sports. Multiple video files can be played simultaneously with advanced features making it a true broadcast quality output.



In this case Klocktornet has been responsible for developing, educating and aiding R-TV in launching its digital signage network. Relying on more than 15 years of experience Klocktornet has given R-TV a well suited software solution which enabled R-TV to create a professional system. The system was sold and installed by Swedish distributor SpecialElektronik AB. SpecialElektronik AB is one of the
