Screen Communications AS - Airport advertising channel

Screen Communication AS has been working with digital signage since 1988. Today Screen Communication has 500 screens (50” Plasma-screens) placed at strategic locations throughout Norway. Screen Communication has as of the beginning of 2006 started installation of 13 airports in Sweden with a total of 160 screens.
The content shown on the screens is a mix of commercials, news and information.

All of their screens are controlled from Trondheim in Norway using a Dise Composer and Dise Bridge. Distribution of content to all players is done through FTP over ADSL connections to all sites. Presentations (Dise Movies) are created using Dise Composer. Using Dise Bridge, these Presentations are then scheduled into play lists and distributed to an FTP server

At each Player site one or more players are connected to ADSL. Two applications are used to fetch and play back the scheduled content, Dise Probe and Dise Replay. Dise Probe mirrors the content on the FTP server at preset time intervals and alerts the Dise Replay application of new Content. Dise Replay automatically plays the scheduled content 24/7 complete with effects.

The content is mostly MPG2 based video files, (commercials) and TIFF based image files. To enhance the viewing experience they utilize the scrolling news ticker feature of DISE. The news feed is text only and is based on the popular RSS format. To incorporate the RSS feed into their presentation ScreenCom use the Dise RSS Reader application which retrieves RSS files and creates text files that are incorporated dynamically into the presentation. The resulting text file is placed on the FTP server. This is an automatic feature which keeps their channel updated with live news 24 hours a day.
