Dise Composer Basics

DISE Composer is the application where you create your content.
You can mix videos, images, texts, flash animations and much more. You select the positions and add effects such as transparency and movement.
The result will be a DISE Movie, ready to be sent out to the players.

This is the main screen of the Composer.

Edit surface. The squared rectangle represents the screen.
Library. Select files here and drag them to the edit surface.
Scene views. Add scenes to your DISE movie and select them here.
Toolbar. Tools with the most common functions used during editing.
Palette. Use it to colorize your texts and objects.
Object settings palette. Make detailed adjustments to your objects here.
Play button. Just click to preview your movie.
Navigation buttons. Opens other windows/programs to let you perform different tasks.
Transparency (Alpha) control

The Library

To the left in the Composer window you have three tabs for object creation.
File Browser, Objects and Library.
The Library is a good place to store your content files, and it comes pre-installed with some example files.

Click on the Library tab.

Double click the “Content” folder and select “Background videos”.
The background videos will be shown as thumbnails at the bottom.

Select the background video “AnimatedBG1” and drag it onto the edit surface.

We have now located a movie file in the library and added it to our DISE Movie.

You can try it out by clicking any of the “Play” buttons below the edit surface.

To stop playing, hit the “escape”

Editing

This video file is intended to be used as a background for any kind of message, but as you can see, it is not covering the complete squared surface.

Right click on the video file in the edit area and select “Use object as background” from the menu.

Now, we want to add a text to our page.
Click on the text tool button in the toolbar at the top.

Enter a text in the dialog that shows up.

Click OK.

Change the font size to 40 in the toolbar at the top.

Change the color of the text to yellow, using the palette at the right.

Try your message by clicking any of the “Play” buttons below the edit surface.

To stop playing, hit the “escape”

Movement

Add a globe image to your scene by using drag-and-drop.
You will find the image under Library/Data/Content/Images/Airport.

Move the globe to the upper left corner of the edit surface.

We want the globe to have some movement to spice up the message.
Right-click the globe image and choose “Rotation…”

Increase the speed two steps and click OK.

Try the movie again with the “Play” button.

To stop playing, hit the “escape”

A geologist might complain that the earth is not rotating the right way, but let us not complicate things right now.

Finally, we want the text to move in and out of the scene.

Right click the text object and choose “Movement…”

Select the arrow that points to the right and click OK.

Try the movie again.

Notice how the text moves behind the rotating globe.

We are now finished with our first lesson, covering the basics of the Composer. Well done!

If you want to save your work, click the save button.

Now, take a break, and come back soon for another tutorial!
